Genesis 1-11

Genesis 1-11 covers the beginning of all things including life itself. God is the creator, and as such, he has no beginning and therefore no end. Man (Adam) is made in Gods image from the dirt of the earth. Being made in his image doesn’t make humans God. Humans are to do their best to be God like, but they always have a weakness that Satan seems to ply on.
God’s relationship with Adam is like the relationship between a father and his child. God walks and talks with Adam. God places Adam in the Garden of Eden with the rule to not eat of the tree of knowledge. Adam takes care of the garden. Man is also put over the animals, but something is missing. Mans need of human companionship can be seen in Adams growing loneliness. God sees that Adam is lonely and creates woman from Adam as he sleeps. Adam wakes up and knows that the woman was made from his flesh and names the woman Eve because she would be the mother of all who live. She is his companion and his helpmate. They belong to and have a dependency on each other. God joins them in marriage.
Human identity is clearly seen for Adam and Eve. He is the first man and she is the first woman. He is the father of all mankind and Eve is the mother. Without these two, there wouldn’t be a human race.
It is human nature to desire what isn’t good for you. Eve is confronted by Satan in the form of a serpent that she could talk to and understands in the Garden of Eden. Satan talks Eve into eating a bite of the forbidden fruit from the tree of knowledge of good and evil. He tells her that she would become like God and that is why God didn’t want her or Adam to eat of the forbidden fruit. Eve wanted to be God like, so she took a bite. Eve never died right away as she feared she would. She urges Adam to also take a bite of the forbidden fruit.
Man (Adam) is given the freedom of choice. He fails and falls into sin when Eve (Woman) presents the forbidden fruit that she had taken a bite from. He (Adam) blames Eve (woman) for his failure with temptation. Eve, in turn, blames Satan. This starts a cycle of blaming others for the sins committed and a theme of good verses evil that mankind still uses today.
Adam and Eve feel shame at their nakedness and cover themselves with fig leaves they had sewn together. When they hear God approaching, they run and hide. God knows what they have done. Man is banished from the Garden of Eden. Woman is to be ruled by her husband and have pain during childbirth. Sins grow worse as time passes.
Sibling rivalry begins with Cain and Abel. Adam and Eve’s first born son, Cain, kills their second son, Abel. Cain was jealous of Gods relationship with his brother Abel. He killed him when he became enraged from God not accepting Cain’s sacrifice but gladly accepting Abel’s. Cain didn’t have to kill Abel but chose to take his life in anger.
Eve gave birth to a third son and named him Seth. Seth took Abel’s place as the Godly bloodline. After Abel’s murder, Cain’s bloodline was then seen as evil. The theme of good verses evil is continued.
Over time, the world is filled with sin and God has to bring a flood upon the Earth in order to attempt the cleansing process of civilization. Noah and his family were the only ones that God spared from the flood. God told Noah to build an ark and he told him what size it was to be. Noah never questioned what God asked of him but obeyed his command.
The land animals came two by two into the ark. Then the flooding water comes along destroying mankind and all land living animals, excepting Noah, his family, and the animals that came two by two into the shelter of the ark. This great flood still did not rid the earth of sin. Satan was still putting forth temptations to man after the waters receded. (This great flood is mentioned in many various cultures and has been scientifically proven to have taken place by non-believing scientist)
It is my understanding that God sends the rainbow as a sign that he will never destroy the earth again by flood. This reminds each and every human that God keeps his word and detest evil doings. He regrets that He had to go to such lengths against humanity, although civilization continues to fall prey to each evil ploy Satan continues to parade before it. I know that God will destroy this earth one day and He will give us a new world free from wrongdoing. It is sad that mankind is still falling for Satan’s schemes into sin and that God would once again feel He has no choice but to destroy this world.
I feel that as humans, we are susceptible to sin. As long as Satan is there tempting humans, mistakes are going to continue to be made against one another and against God. Once Satan is destroyed for good, humans will be given their heavenly bodies and are to be once more joined to God, then sin will no longer be.
Don't play the blame game with your spouse as Adam and Eve has done. Own up to your mistakes, seek forgiveness from each other and the Lord. Anything can be forgiven, but only with true repentance.
